Concrete might sound industrial, but polished concrete? That’s where the magic happens. It’s sleek, it’s shiny, and it means business. At Jenco Companies, we’ve been turning dull slabs into jaw-dropping surfaces for years—and let’s just say we know our way around a grinder.

Whether you’re dealing with a dusty garage, a showroom floor, or a warehouse that needs to impress, polished concrete is the ultimate mix of form and function. Here’s how the pros make it shine.

Step One: Don’t Skip the Grind

The process starts with heavy-duty grinding. We’re talking about industrial machines armed with diamond-embedded discs. These aren’t your average sanders—they’re precision beasts that remove surface imperfections, smooth out uneven spots, and open the pores of the concrete so it can properly receive densifiers.

Depending on the condition of the existing floor, we may start with a coarse 30- or 40-grit and work our way up through finer grits until we reach that glossy finish. Skipping steps here? That’s how you end up with a surface that looks like a sidewalk instead of a stunner.

Densifiers: The Secret Sauce

Once the grinding opens up the surface, it’s time for a densifier. We usually work with lithium-silicate-based densifiers, which chemically react with the calcium hydroxide in concrete to harden the floor from the inside out. This is where durability meets shine.

It’s what separates a polished floor that lasts from one that starts looking tired after a year. Densifiers also help make the floor stain-resistant and easier to maintain.

Polishing to Perfection

Here’s where things get pretty. After the densifier does its job, we continue refining the surface using increasingly fine grits—up to 3,000 in some cases. This is how you get that mirror-like finish you can almost see your reflection in. Want a matte or satin sheen instead? We can stop the polishing process earlier for a more subdued look.

Tools of the Trade for concrete polishing

We use high-torque planetary polishers, vacuum systems for dust control, and diamond tooling selected for each specific job.

A showroom floor in Stockton isn’t the same as a processing plant in Modesto, and our team adjusts the equipment and methods accordingly.

Why People Love It (Besides the Shine)

  • Durability: Polished concrete holds up to forklifts, foot traffic, and even spilled lattes.
  • Low Maintenance: No waxing, no stripping. Just regular cleaning.
  • Eco-Friendly: It uses your existing slab, no extra materials.
  • Reflectivity: It bounces light around the room, reducing the need for harsh lighting.
  • Custom Look: From matte to mirror, clear to color-tinted, the options are surprisingly vast.

What Can Go Wrong (If You Don’t Hire Jenco)

  • Improper surface prep
  • Incompatible densifiers
  • Wrong grit sequence
  • Dust everywhere

Polishing concrete is not a weekend DIY job. You need trained pros who understand moisture vapor issues, patchwork repair, and exactly how hard to push that machine.

The Jenco Difference

We don’t just make your floor look good—we make it last. Our crews are trained, equipped, and borderline obsessed with quality. Whether it’s a boutique or a big-box retail floor, we approach every polish with the same attention to detail.
